Coventry City Target Palace Winger as Lampard Prioritises ‘Exciting’ Option Over Abada – £10–15m Deal Looms
Coventry City are reportedly lining up an ambitious move for a Crystal Palace winger as Frank Lampard looks to put his own stamp on the squad, with an “exciting” wide option now emerging as a priority ahead of Celtic’s Liel Abada.
According to reports, the Sky Blues are exploring a deal in the region of £10–15 million for Palace attacker Jesurun Rak-Sakyi, a player long admired for his pace, directness and end product. Lampard, who took charge earlier this season, is understood to be keen on adding more creativity and penetration in wide areas as he reshapes Coventry into a promotion contender.
Rak-Sakyi, a product of Crystal Palace’s academy, has impressed during his loan spells in the EFL and is viewed as one of the most promising English wingers outside the Premier League elite. His ability to operate on either flank, drive at defenders and contribute goals from wide positions is said to fit perfectly with Lampard’s attacking philosophy.
While Coventry have also been linked with Celtic winger Liel Abada, sources suggest the Championship side are now prioritising the Palace man. Abada’s pedigree in European competition and domestic success in Scotland makes him an attractive option, but concerns over cost structure, wages and tactical fit have reportedly tilted the balance in Rak-Sakyi’s favour.
Lampard is believed to see the 22-year-old as a player with both immediate impact and long-term value, aligning with the club’s recruitment model of developing talent while remaining competitive. The former Chelsea boss has made no secret of his desire to work with young, hungry players capable of growing under his guidance.
From Palace’s perspective, a permanent sale could make sense if a suitable offer arrives. With competition for places fierce at Selhurst Park, the club may view a £10–15m fee as strong value, particularly if sell-on clauses or performance add-ons are included.
