UDO DIRKSCHNEIDER Admits He Was ‘A Little Bit Too Quick To Say’ He Wouldn’t Perform ACCEPT Songs Anymore, Sends Apologies
Legendary heavy metal vocalist Udo Dirkschneider has publicly admitted he may have been too hasty in declaring he would no longer perform songs from his former band, Accept. In a recent interview, the iconic frontman acknowledged that his earlier statement was made prematurely and expressed regret for disappointing fans who still cherish the classic hits.
Dirkschneider, who fronted Accept during its most influential years and helped define the band’s signature sound with tracks like “Balls to the Wall” and “Metal Heart,” had previously announced he would retire all Accept material from his live performances. At the time, he cited a desire to focus solely on his U.D.O. and Dirkschneider solo projects. However, he now concedes that his decision may have alienated some longtime supporters.
“I was a little bit too quick to say, ‘I’m done with Accept songs,’” Dirkschneider admitted. “I thought it was the right move for me artistically, but I’ve come to understand how much those songs still mean to the fans—and honestly, to me as well.”
The veteran singer emphasized that the music he made with Accept remains an important part of his legacy. “I cannot and should not ignore that part of my career. It helped shape who I am as a musician. So yes, I will play some of those songs again, especially if that’s what the fans want to hear.”
Dirkschneider also took a moment to apologize directly to fans who may have felt let down by his earlier stance. “To everyone who was disappointed, I’m sorry. My intention was never to turn my back on the music or on you. I just needed time to figure out what felt right going forward.”
The announcement has already generated excitement among fans, many of whom are eager to hear Accept classics performed live once again by the original voice behind them. Dirkschneider confirmed that select Accept songs will be reintroduced into his future setlists, starting with his upcoming European tour.
For fans of classic heavy metal, this change of heart is a welcome development—and a powerful reminder that some legacies are too strong to leave behind.
